Imago Dei Church began as a Sunday night Bible Study. During this time Pastor Chris was working and finishing Seminary as he and Page were praying about God’s call on their lives to start a church in Greenville. Chris began his Acts 29 application and assessment phase in 2009 and in November he and Page went to Louisville, KY to A29 Bootcamp. They returned with a confirmation of their call to church plant in Greenville, SC.
In January of 2010 the Sunday Bible study became the core group of Imago Dei Church. Chris began meeting with the men of the core group once a week in a Theology and Pub type setting to teach them the core tenets of Christianity and how theology drives what we do as believers. They began meeting at Fitzpatrick’s Irish Pub in Greenville and in the summer of 2010 came to an agreement with the owners to launch Imago Dei Church at their pub! Imago Dei had its first public worship service on October 03, 2010.
We have since outgrown our space at Fitzpatrick’s and God has been gracious to place us at The Channel, a concert venue in downtown Greenville owned by Jay and Amanda McAbee, who have a love for Jesus and heart to see Greenville transformed by the Gospel.
The Gospel is taking root and transforming lives. We have seen folks freed from historical Bible-belt Churchianity as well as apathy and irreligion. At Imago Dei we hold dear the authority of the Bible, exclusivity of Jesus, the Grace of God, and unity of the church. We do not major on the minors, as we seek to faithfully proclaim the Scriptures in a Gospel-centered and culturally relevant way.
